WRX Repair & Service
Auburn, CA's Subaru WRX specialists. From routine maintenance to clutch work, timing belts, and COBB tuning — we know the WRX inside out, across every generation.
The WRX Rewards
Specialist Care.
The WRX is a purpose-built performance car running a turbocharged engine, a demanding AWD system, and — on pre-2015 models — one of the most failure-consequential timing belts in the Subaru lineup. It responds extremely well to proper maintenance and extremely poorly to neglect or incorrect service. Oil change intervals matter more. Fluid specs matter more. Getting the clutch job done right the first time matters more.
We service WRXs across all generations — EJ205 and EJ255 four-cylinder turbo models through 2014, and the FA20DIT direct-injection turbo in 2015-and-later cars. The service requirements differ significantly between them, and we know the difference.
EJ-Series WRX (2002–2014)
EJ205 (2002–2005), EJ255 (2006–2014). Timing belt engine — 105k/8-year replacement interval is mandatory. Higher oil change frequency. Clutch wear accelerated by performance driving. Head gasket less common than naturally aspirated EJ25 but not unheard of on high-mileage cars.
FA-Series WRX (2015–Present)
FA20DIT (2015–2021), FA24F (2022+). Timing chain — no belt replacement interval. Direct injection requires attention to intake valve carbon buildup. CVT available on some trims (fluid service critical). Sport Lineartronic CVT in 2015–2021 requires correct CVTF-II fluid.
Common WRX Services
Oil Changes
Turbocharged WRXs run shorter oil change intervals than naturally aspirated Subarus — we recommend 5,000 miles or 6 months on the EJ-series, and 6,000 miles on the FA20DIT. We use full synthetic oil at the correct viscosity for your model year. Skipping intervals on a boosted engine is where bearing wear starts.
Oil Change DetailsTiming Belt (EJ WRX)
If you have a 2002–2014 WRX, you have a timing belt engine. The 105,000-mile or 8-year interval is mandatory — and on a car used for spirited driving, we lean toward the conservative end. Belt, tensioner, idler pulleys, water pump, and seals — done complete. EJ engines are interference engines. There is no belt failure recovery.
Timing Belt DetailsClutch Replacement
WRX clutches wear faster than any other Subaru — spirited driving, short-shifting, and launch use accelerate disc wear significantly. We replace the full assembly: disc, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and resurface the flywheel in-house. A proper flywheel resurface is the difference between a clutch that lasts and one that chatters within 20,000 miles.
Clutch & Drivetrain DetailsDifferential & Fluid Service
WRX front and rear differentials work harder than on a standard Subaru — spirited cornering and AWD torque demand clean, correctly-spec'd gear oil. We recommend 25,000-mile differential service intervals on performance-driven WRXs. Brake fluid every 2 years is non-negotiable on a car you're actually using the brakes on.
Fluid Services DetailsECU Tuning
The WRX is one of the most tune-friendly platforms in Subaru's lineup. We offer COBB Accessport and Ecutek tuning with in-house Mustang Dyno validation. Stage 1 through built-motor tunes, OTS map setup, and custom ethanol blends. If you're adding a downpipe, intake, or boost controller, tuning is the final step that makes the hardware work correctly and safely.
Performance & Tuning DetailsSuspension & Alignment
Strut replacement, coilover installation, sway bar upgrades, and four-wheel alignment to street or performance spec. WRX suspension wears faster on spirited drivers, and alignment matters more on a car you're actually cornering hard. We align to your preferred geometry with a before-and-after printout — factory comfort or aggressive performance spec.

WRX Generation Knowledge
The EJ205, EJ255, FA20DIT, and FA24F are all different engines with different service requirements, different failure modes, and different tuning considerations. We know which generation you have, what it needs at each interval, and what the common issues are before they show up on your service receipt.
Performance & Maintenance Together
Most performance shops don't do maintenance. Most maintenance shops don't do tuning. We do both — which means your WRX gets serviced by technicians who understand what the performance modifications demand of the engine, drivetrain, and cooling system. A car making 350whp needs different attention than a stock WRX, and we account for that.
2-Year Warranty
Every service and repair on your WRX is covered by our 2-year warranty — including performance upgrades we install and tune. We stand behind all of it because we do the work correctly with the right parts and the right process, whether it's an oil change or a stage 2 build.
