Fluid Services

Fresh fluid is the cheapest repair you can do. The alternative isn't skipping maintenance — it's paying for the component it was supposed to protect.

Your AWD System
Lives and Dies by Its Fluids

Subaru's symmetrical AWD is what makes these cars exceptional — but it puts unique demands on every fluid in the drivetrain. The front differential, rear differential, and transfer case all depend on clean, correctly-specified gear oil. Let it degrade and you're silently wearing out components that cost thousands to replace.

Brake fluid is the other one people skip because nothing visibly goes wrong — until it does. It absorbs moisture from the air over time, which steadily lowers its boiling point. On a mountain descent or an emergency stop, fluid that reaches its boiling point turns to compressible vapor. That's brake fade, right when you need it least.

  • Correct Subaru-spec fluid for your model year — not a generic substitute
  • Complete flush — old fluid fully evacuated, fresh fluid in
  • System inspection during service — seals, lines, and component condition
  • Documented service record for your maintenance history

Every Fluid System
in Your Subaru

Brake Fluid

DOT 4 or DOT 5.1 full flush. Restores your braking system's boiling point margin and removes the hygroscopic contamination that accumulates in lines, calipers, and the master cylinder over time. Subaru recommends every 2 years regardless of mileage. Critical for mountain roads, canyon driving, and any performance use.

Front & Rear Differential

Complete differential fluid service using Subaru-spec gear oil for both front and rear units. The symmetrical AWD system's differentials are among the most overlooked service items on high-mileage Subarus — and among the most expensive to replace when they're not maintained. Especially important for spirited drivers and anyone approaching 60k+ miles.

Coolant Flush

Full coolant exchange using Subaru Long Life Coolant or an approved equivalent. Degraded coolant turns acidic and attacks aluminum engine components, water pump seals, and the radiator from the inside. Required any time the water pump is replaced — and recommended on a 30k–60k interval on its own merits.

Transmission & CVT Fluid

Manual transmission fluid, automatic transmission fluid, and CVT fluid exchange using the exact Subaru-specified product for your model. CVT fluid degrades under heat and load faster than most owners realize. Many Subaru CVTs carry a "lifetime fill" designation — one that outlasts the warranty period, not the vehicle. Fresh fluid at 30k–60k miles is the most cost-effective CVT service you can do.

The Right Fluid.
For Your Subaru. Every Time.

Subaru-Specific Fluids

Subaru specifies particular fluid types for their AWD differentials, CVTs, and cooling circuits. Using the wrong product can swell seals, cause premature wear, and void coverage on certain components. We stock the correct Subaru-spec products and know which model year requires which specification.

We Check While We're In There

Every fluid service includes a visual inspection of the surrounding system — seals, hoses, lines, and component condition. A differential service is one of the only windows into what's happening inside your AWD hardware. If something is starting to fail, fresh eyes during a routine service are how you catch it early.

2-Year Warranty

Our fluid service work is covered by our 2-year warranty. If a seal disturbed during service causes a subsequent issue, or if the work itself is at fault in any way, we make it right. No runaround — that's what standing behind your work actually means.

Fluid Services FAQ

How often should I change the differential fluid on my Subaru?

Subaru's factory recommendation is approximately every 30,000 miles under normal conditions. For WRX, STI, and vehicles used for spirited or mountain driving, we lean toward 25,000 miles. The front and rear differentials should always be serviced together — mismatched fluid viscosities across the AWD system cause uneven wear and can trigger the torque-sensing center differential to work against itself.

Why does brake fluid need to be changed if it isn't low?

Brake fluid level and brake fluid condition are two completely separate things. The fluid absorbs moisture through the rubber brake hoses and reservoir over time. As moisture content rises, the boiling point drops. Under sustained hard braking — mountain descents, track days, emergency stops — fluid that reaches its boiling point vaporizes. Gas is compressible; liquid isn't. The result is a suddenly soft, ineffective pedal. Subaru recommends replacement every 2 years regardless of mileage.

My Subaru has a CVT — does the fluid actually need to be changed?

Yes. Subaru marked many CVT-equipped models as "lifetime fill," a designation that means the fluid should outlast the powertrain warranty — not that it literally never needs changing. CVT fluid breaks down under heat and load, and a failed CVT on a Subaru is one of the most expensive repairs you can face. A fluid exchange at 30k–60k miles costs a fraction of a CVT replacement and significantly extends CVT service life. We see this correlation consistently.

Can I mix DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 brake fluid?

They are chemically compatible and can be mixed in an emergency, but mixing degrades the performance spec of the fresh fluid. A proper flush evacuates the old fluid entirely from the master cylinder, lines, and calipers before the new fluid goes in. We do complete flushes — not top-offs that dilute fresh fluid with old contaminated fluid.

How long do fluid services take?

Most fluid services are completed in 1–2 hours. A brake fluid flush, differential service, and coolant exchange can all be done in the same visit if you want to knock everything out at once — we'll combine them efficiently and give you one trip instead of three.
