Free Second Opinions
Got an estimate that doesn't feel right? Bring it to us. No charge, no obligation — just an honest read on what your Subaru actually needs.
We'll Tell You If
They Were Right.
A second opinion is only worth something if it's honest — which means we'll tell you when the other shop's diagnosis was accurate and the repair is necessary, just as readily as we'll tell you when it wasn't. We don't offer free second opinions as a customer acquisition tactic dressed up as a service. We offer them because a Subaru owner who leaves with correct information — even if that means authorizing the other shop's work — is the kind of relationship we want to build.
If the diagnosis was right but the price was high, we'll tell you that and give you our quote. If the recommended repair isn't warranted at all, we'll explain why and what we'd recommend instead. If the estimate is fair and we'd do the same work, we'll tell you that too. What we won't do is find something wrong with every car we look at just to justify the visit.
- Completely free — no diagnostic charge, no inspection fee
- No obligation to book any work with us
- We inspect the car ourselves — not just a desk review of the other estimate
- Honest assessment whether the diagnosis is right, wrong, or incomplete
- Our competing quote provided in writing if you'd like to compare pricing
How It Works
-
Bring the estimate and the car
Bring the written estimate from the other shop — or forward it to us beforehand if you have it digitally. Bring the car too. A second opinion that doesn't involve actually looking at the vehicle isn't worth much. We need to see the car to give you an honest assessment.
-
We inspect the relevant systems
We put the car on the lift and inspect what the other shop flagged. We also run our own diagnosis if there are questions about the original findings — checking the same systems with our equipment, reading our own scan tool data, and measuring what the estimate claims is worn or failing.
-
We give you a straight answer
We tell you what we found, whether we agree with the diagnosis, and what we'd recommend. If the work is warranted and you'd like us to do it, we provide a written estimate. If it isn't warranted, we explain why and what — if anything — actually needs attention. Either way, you leave knowing more than when you arrived.
When a second opinion is worth getting
- An estimate arrived for a repair you weren't expecting and the total is significant
- The shop recommended multiple repairs at once and you're not sure which are urgent
- You just purchased a used Subaru and want an independent assessment of its condition
- A dealer quoted a major repair on a car still under warranty and you want to verify the diagnosis
- You've had the same repair done twice and the problem is still present
- The shop's explanation didn't make sense and you want someone to walk through it with you
A Second Opinion Is Only Useful
If the Source Is Honest
Subaru-Specific Knowledge
A second opinion from a shop that doesn't know Subarus well is of limited value. We know the specific failure patterns, the service intervals, the diagnostic quirks, and the common over-sells on these cars — we can evaluate an estimate on a Subaru with a level of context that a generalist shop simply doesn't have. That knowledge is what makes the opinion worth getting.
We Confirm Before We Recommend
We look at the car before we agree or disagree with anything. An estimate review without a physical inspection is just an opinion about an opinion. We put the car on the lift, check the systems in question with our own tools, and base our assessment on what we actually find — not what we assume based on the mileage or the other shop's writeup.
No Pressure, Ever
We've built our business on long-term relationships with Subaru owners in Auburn and the foothills — not on extracting maximum revenue from a single visit. A customer who comes in for a second opinion, gets a straight answer, and walks away having made a better-informed decision — whether they book work with us or not — is the kind of outcome we're after. The pressure-free reputation is what brings people back.
Second Opinion FAQ
Is the second opinion really free?
Yes — no charge, no hidden diagnostic fee, no obligation. We inspect the relevant systems, give you our honest assessment, and let you decide what to do with it. If you choose to have us do the repair, you pay for the repair. If you don't, you pay nothing. That's the deal.
Do I need to bring the written estimate, or can I just describe what the shop said?
A written estimate is more useful than a verbal description — it gives us specific part numbers, labor operations, and the shop's stated diagnosis to evaluate against what we find on the car. If you only have a verbal description, bring that and the car; we can often still give you a useful assessment. If the other shop gave you a multi-item list, bring the full list — some line items that seem connected may have independent diagnoses worth evaluating separately.
What if the other shop was right?
We tell you. If the repair is legitimate and the price is fair, we say so — and you can go back to the original shop with confidence, or have us do the work at a comparable price. We've sent customers back to other shops with the confirmation they needed. That's not a failure of our second opinion; that's the point of it. An honest result that validates the original estimate is just as valuable as one that doesn't.
Can I get a second opinion on work done by a Subaru dealer?
Absolutely. Dealers are not infallible — dealer service departments operate under the same revenue pressures as any other shop, and dealer technicians vary in experience and Subaru-specific depth. We evaluate dealer estimates and diagnoses with the same objectivity as any other shop's. If the dealer was right, we'll confirm it. If there's a less expensive path to the same outcome, we'll tell you that too.
How long does a second opinion take?
Most second opinion visits take 30–60 minutes depending on the complexity of what's being evaluated. A single-item brake or suspension estimate takes less time than a multi-system diagnosis or a major engine repair quote. Call or schedule online and briefly describe what you're bringing in — we'll let you know if it's a quick visit or if you should plan to leave the car for a few hours.
